Women's Herstory Month...See What I Did There?

Hey there!

In case you didn't already know (and how could you not?!) March is Women's History Month! (I know you already have your decorations up, right?!)

Anyhoo, Will Forte wrote a great song that should definitely be taught in schools about Women's History. Click here, and enjoy!

Dancing with the Stars will start again on March 22nd on ABC. Here's a list of the celebrity contestants:
Jake Pavelka--The most recent Bachelor
Pamela Anderson--Baywatch
Chad Ochocinco--NFL Player
Aiden Turner--Actor on "All My Children"
Shannen Doherty--Actress from "Beverly Hills 90210"
Erin Andrews--ESPN
Buzz Aldrin--The First Person to Ever "Moon Walk"
Niecy Nash--Actress from "Reno 911"
Nicole Scherzinger--Pussycat Doll
Evan Lysacek--Gold Medal Winner (Men's figure skating)
And finally, the crown jewel...
KATE GOSSELIN! (Reality Star, Jon and Kate Plus 8).

Sadly, neither JoEllen, nor I liked Parenthood. We really wanted to see Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) in something new to love...but I don't think that this is it. The show was advertised as a comedy, but the show was anything but funny. It may be an overall good drama show, but that is not what I was expecting. We'll see if this survives after its first season.

Finally, the Oscars were on last night! Here's a list of the winners.

We'll be off air for a couple of weeks because of Spring Break! Join us for what will be our triumphant return Sunday March 28th.

Happy (Early) St. Patrick's Day!

Is twitter a legit source for information?

I'm not going to go into detail this week since if you listened to the show, then you know what we talked about and if you didn't, I'll just send you to some links and give a list of the topics we discussed.

Here's what was on the rocket docket:
-Talkin' 'bout trash: 16 & Pregnant, Tool Academy 3
-Steve Ward and I (Joellen) are pretty much bffs now. Just kidding. But here's his twitter (can you spot my question?). I'm a shoe-in for the next season after Tough Love Couples.
-@kathygriffin:

"WARNING!!! Gush moment. Taped a D List scene w Kristin Chenoweth. Wow! She knocked my sox off AND she's a Christian who thinks I'M funny!"

-Betty White for SNL!
-Comparing Sookie Stackhouse Series novels to the True Blood series
-Family Guy v. Palins
-Ausiello's list of renewals and cancellations
-Big Bang Theory- Stan Lee guest stars. Nice transition to the comic book show after ours. I'm just so considerate like that.
-Ending "song": Jimmy Fallon's "Bothered with Robert Pattinson" Valentine's Day edition.

That's all for now.
XOXO,
Joellen

We're Not Here To Start No Trouble...

...We're just here to do the Superbowl Shuffle!

This Sunday there was one thing on our minds...Super Bowl Commercials!

There were several ads this year that sparked controversy. The first was Focus on the Family's ad featuring Tim Tebow's mom. This ad was controversial because CBS had never allowed a political advocacy ad before, and this ad featured a pro-life message.

Another controversial ad was for Man-Crunch, a gay dating web-site. The ad was actually banned, and the reason cited was that CBS didn't trust that Man Crunch could afford the ad as they wanted to pay in cash.

Finally, a KGB ad was banned which featured some men with their heads "where the sun don't shine." While the commercial was kind of crude, I personally didn't find it offensive...but you can judge for yourselves here.

We were really looking forward to the return of Nanerpuss for Denny's...but all we got was a screaming chicken...c'est la vie.

Two other ads we were really excited for was the Betty White Snickers ad and the fiddling beaver. All in all, the commercials this year were a little disappointing. Better luck next year!

You can watch all of the ads on hulu.com

Next week we might actually get to our discussion of The Good Wife!

I leave you with a very cute video of a manatee, which Alec Baldwin wants us to save. Well, this manatee and all of his manatee friends.

Manatees and Headless Ghost Monkeys

Guess it's my turn to write the blog for this week, but I threw my notes away after the show so let's see how much I can remember.

Kicked things off with For the Love of Ray J, the song from the soundtrack for the first season of.... For the Love of Ray J. Duh. Season finale of For the Love of Ray J 2 is tomorrow night. My money's on Platinum because Ray is so not ready to be a father to Mz. Berry's kids, but the better choice would be to just pick neither of them. Platinum's still in love with her ex!

Tough Love 2 finale was tonight. Very similar ending to the first season, but for updates on the girls after the show, you have to click here (no supertitles this time at the end of the show, but the girls say in their own words how they're doing). You can thank Lou Lou for that link. I couldn't find it, and it made me very sad but now that I've seen it it's okay. Not all good news, but they all seem to be doing okay.

Lou Lou talked about one of her faves, Real World DC. I'm not into Real World at all, but she plans to find their house and take a pic. So stay tuned for that.

Throwing out another buzzword: Ghosts. Of course. So over break I got really into The Haunted on Animal Planet. Obviously it's about animals and ghosts and ghosts of animals. My favorite is of the headless monkey ghosts in the candle shoppe. If that sounds interesting to you, that might be something to check out.

Another show I really got into over break was Better Off Ted. I guess I didn't explain this that well during the show, but it's just about these people who work for a company that... invents stuff? If you watch it, you'll understand better. But there's a character named Linda, which is a GREAT name, and she's young and pretty, which is rare for someone named Linda. Only a few of us can be that lucky. Portia De Rossi plays the boss, Veronica. I think she is the funniest character on the show. Especially when she says things about what she did to her sister as a child (steroids, force fed her while she was asleep... the usual).

So some sad news: Ugly Betty AND Greek have been cancelled.
But happy news: JLo and Carrie Underwood are going to be in upcoming episodes of How I Met Your Mother!

Aaaaannnd RuPaul's Drag Race premieres on Monday. Just for mentioning that, I have the right to post this link. Enjoy (it's worth it).

XOXO,
Joellen

TWITTER

WE HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT.

I AM SO EXCITED.

I ALSO WROTE THIS WHOLE THING HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY BECAUSE I AM AN IDIOT AND ALWAYS FORGET ABOUT CAPS LOCK.

Anyway, it'll be similar to what we post on Facebook with links and gossip and such. (Including sad news about show cancellations, one of which is EXCLUSIVE gossip that hasn't even been released to the press!)

Back in Action

Hey Y'all!

It felt really good to be back in the studio again! Well, the lab, tomayto, tomahto.

Today we talked about a lot!

First, Pants on the Ground...to know it is to love it!

CSI Miami (News Flash: we occasionally watch shows that aren't trashy, too!) had a popstar theme! However, we were very disappointed that Horatio had a lackluster zinger at the beginning, because who doesn't love Joel McHale's reenactments?

We talked about the Leno-Conan controversy...but you, like us, are probably over this story...so...moving on!

Shows coming up to look forward to:
Greek starts January 25th on ABC Family at 9!
RuPaul's Drag Race starts on Logo on February 1st! (Here's the winner of the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race, Bebe Zahara Benet's premiere single!)

Upcoming Guest Stars on Glee:
Idina Menzel of Wicked fame
NPH (Fingers Crossed!!!!)

We have a big show coming up next Sunday! Don't forget to tune in on The Lab stream on KRUI at 5pm Sunday evening!

Later Days

More Changes than NBC's Late-Night Lineup

I won't go into the Jay vs. Conan debacle just yet--we'll save it for the first show of 2010.

But to all our fans (especially the foreign princesses that need us to help them get their money back), I wanted to give an update on our situation for this semester.

The Boob Tube will be moving from Sundays at 5:30 p.m. to Sundays at 5 p.m. You may be thinking, Well that's not such a big change. Fruit you. You're wasting my time. I could be reading someone else's lame-o blog right now instead of this blabber.

Hush. I'm not done. Instead of being in the KRUI main studio, we have been moved to the KRUI Lab (exclusive stream). What does this mean? I'm not quite sure. From my understanding, the Lab was created last semester as a training studio for new djs and such. This semester, however, the "powers that be" are trying to evolve the Lab into an internet station in its own right. Honestly, I've never even been in this Lab place. I hope it's like Narnia and we have to go through a magical wardrobe to get there. Afterwards, we'll have Mr. Pibb and Red Vines because it equals crazy delicious.

Some might say we are the Conan in this situation because we'll have fewer listeners as a result of this change. I say this is just another reason Iowa City cab drivers (my biggest fans from the late-night/early-morning shifts I had as a dj) should invest in cell phones with web browsing capabilities. Do the streams work on phones? I'm so technologically inept. Iowa City doesn't have Clear Internet, so you couldn't stream it from your laptop while you're in a car. That is part of the commercial for Clear in the Chicago area--because you can't go a whole commute without the Internet.

Sorry, I get more off-topic than some professors who shall not be named. Anyway, what this changes is pretty much nothing. All our listeners from outside the Iowa City area listened to us on the stream anyway. Now you just have to remember to click the Lab's stream instead of the Main Studio's stream. As for those in the Iowa City area, heed this advice: At 5 p.m. every Sunday, listen to us on your computer at home, take your laptop to one of the numerous places that has free wi-fi access, or go to the University's Main Library and hover over someone until they give up their computer. Do this even if there are open computers around. Hovering is so much more fun.

If you've been skimming, this is all you need to know: Boob Tube KRUI Lab Sundays 5 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Also:
Today was my birthday.

XOXO,
Joellen InHale
